Safe TO Work (STOW) is a certification programme for contractors’ HSE management systems – any contractor providing services to the energy sector in Trinidad & Tobago, needs to be certified.
STOW ensures that contractors have acceptable HSE standards and effectively manage HSE risk, through an audit process.
After a lot of hard work, Vysus Group has successfully passed the STOW audit at over 96% compliance, meaning auditor will recommend us to the body that awards the STOW certificates.
There are 11 elements within STOW HSE requirements, including HSE management, leadership and accountability, risk and change management, security, environmental management, incident reporting and investigation, and crisis and emergency management.
Since beginning her new role as Americas QHSES Lead, Susan Samaroo, has focused on preparations for the audit – and has been instrumental in coordinating the team effort and ultimately achieving the certification.
Head of HSES, Steve Harris, said: “We owe a debt of gratitude to Susan for this excellent result, she definitely went the extra mile. Although a large number of people contributed, they were coordinated by Susan, and she spent a huge amount of time with the auditor and managing the whole process.”
Susan added: “The STOW requirements were created to help identify contractors who operate according to superior HSE principles and to help reduce incidents while improving efficiency across the energy industry.
“As a new business, we are keen to demonstrate the importance of our safety record and achieving STOW accreditation will certainly help us prove our commitment to existing and potential clients.”
By passing with such a high mark, the next STOW audit will be two years away – a lower mark can result in the awarding body providing a shorter duration certificate or requesting surveillance.
