Horizon Nuclear Power has named us as the Independent Third-Party Inspection Agency (ITPIA) for its Wylfa Newydd nuclear power plant project in North Wales.
“Vysus Group has global recognition for the calibre of their independent assurance and expert advice to the energy sector,” says Richard Edwards, Head of Supply Chain Quality Assurance for Horizon Nuclear Power.
As ITPIA, we will inspect the manufacturing and production of the plant’s most safety-critical equipment, ensuring that it is built to the approved design and specification to safeguard safety and operational capability. Whilst we will work under the direction of Horizon, the ITPIA role will provide independent inspection and monitoring alongside Horizon's capability as an ‘Intelligent Customer’, demonstrating to the Nuclear Regulators the effective oversight and management of the supply chain.
Javan Bonathan, Project Manager for Horizon Nuclear Power says: “The Vysus Group team has a long history of nuclear inspection and certification in the UK and around the world. It is critical that the appointed ITPIA is able to act with integrity while navigating a multitude of cultures and environments which feature in today’s modern supply chain, and we believe that Vysus Group fulfils that criteria.”
We were involved in the design appraisal and survey of the world’s first nuclear power plant, Calder Hall, in Cumbria, UK, more than 60 years ago.
We were also appointed ITPIA for the last nuclear plant constructed in the UK - the Sizewell “B” nuclear facility - and continue to perform statutory inspection duties to this day. Our recent high-profile appointments include helping the United Arab Emirates construct its first nuclear plant, as well as providing independent verification services in South Korea to assess the country’s nuclear safety equipment.
“Vysus Group is delighted to have been awarded this most prestigious ITPIA contract,” said Pascal Coudeville, Chief Operating Officer for Vysus Group Inspection Services. “It is particularly encouraging that despite very strong competition from both within the UK and worldwide, the contract award was recognition of our established reputation within the nuclear field, and our in-depth global experience linked to our ability to be commercially competitive.”
