Project
Deepwater rig positioning
Location
Mexico
Vysus Group's experience in surveying and rig positioning helped to successfully position a deepwater well and minimise any potential risks and downtime.
Client Challenge
Petronas, one of the largest integrated oil and gas corporations, required rig positioning and well setting QC services, for a deepwater exploration project off the coast of Mexico. This marked a new high profile entry into the region for Petronas.
How we helped
We applied our extensive experience in surveying and rig positioning to install an upgraded LR V-NODE unit, containing DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System), heading and AIS (Automated Information System) sensors on the rig, which allowed the rig’s position to be accurately identified, with data sent in real time to our innovative IRIS web mapping site. The position of the rig and drill centre was then independently computed and displayed live on the web map, enabling additional onshore quality control.
The following technical assessments were carried out:
- Risk assessment review
- Rig positioning scope determination
- Task plan finalisation
- VNODE installation
- Positioning quality control checks
- SBL calibration QC
Our rigorous QC process set the seabed well position perfectly first
time without the need for any corrective vessel moves, therefore
validating the integrity of the well position and generating efficiency
within the critical pathway.
Powerful results
One exploration well was set during the project and was spudded efficiently and successfully without any issues or down time associated with the positioning operation.
What is IRIS?
Based upon a platform of seamless web mapping, IRIS is a project support
and data management web tool focused on offshore projects including rig
moves, construction, survey and inspection. Data is collated and
securely hosted in the cloud from where it accessed and viewed through a
web mapping interface using any internet enabled device.
