Case Study

Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Health Check

Client challenge

Our client had some operational and safety concerns in relation to an Operators FPSO. Due to a lack of adequate internal resources, they requested Vysus Group to carry out a ‘health check’ of the FPSO in order to assess the adequacy of the integrity management practices of the Operator.

How we helped

We carried out an independent assessment of Safety & Environmentally. Critical Elements (SCEs) of the FPSO. The scope was implemented in three phases:

Phase 1: The key task of this phase was to establish the level of inspection and maintenance activity compliance and identify deviations from the operator in question, approved strategies, procedures and programmes including applicable legal regulations. Industry best practices were taken into consideration as a comparison tool.

Phase 2: Site surveys were carried out on each area / discipline in order to confirm the available data, pick-up key missing data and to gain an overall impression of condition and management of the plant and equipment. Based on the survey and Phase 1 gaps, a detailed discussion was carried out with the relevant offshore /technical authorities.

Phase 3: Following the outcomes from Phase 1 & Phase 2, each discipline engineer produced a detailed report on the current integrity status using RAG (Red Amber Green) colour coding for ease of appreciation.

Powerful Results

We established effectiveness of inspection and maintenance processes as well as a current condition of the critical systems, plant and equipment.

Phase 1: Collation, registration and review (gap analysis) of maintenance and inspection histories for the relevant plant and equipment (including class, incident and survey reports).

Phase 2: On-site (offshore) evaluation of current plant and equipment conditions.

Phase 3: Reporting.

Benefits:

  • Helped client to understand the current health/integrity status of the asset.
  • Provided client with clear and concise “integrity statements” for various SCEs.
  • Assurance that FPSO was still safe to operate in its current condition.
  • Identified scope for improvement in the integrity management processes being practiced by the Operator.
  • Executed the project on fast-track basis
