Client Challenge
Following the lease award as part of the Round 3 auction in 2009, EDPR needed to characterise the seabed and shallow subsurface conditions. Previously as LR Energy, Vysus Group were engaged by Moray Offshore Renewable Power to specify, manage, quality assure and deliver geophysical surveys and geotechnical site investigations over the area throughout the project from feasibility to constructions.
How we helped
Between 2010 and 2018, we played a key role in the acquisition, interpretation and characterisation of both geophysical and geotechnical data, creating an integrated 3D ground model. This provided a full understanding of the ground conditions and risks that existed across the site and the proposed export cable route.
The ground model was used throughout the project life cycle to inform field layout planning, optimise survey and site investigation campaigns, inform cable route design, and foundation concept and detailed design phases of the project.
That advice resulted in model updates that took only two to three minutes, fast and accurate enough to support real-time risk monitoring.
Powerful results
By using our extensive experience in survey and site investigation, project management and shallow subsurface risk management, we successfully delivered the first geophysical survey, the results of which informed the field layout, foundation concepts and export cable route with improved site characterisation, helping our client reduce LCOE and make sound future investment decisions.
LR's collaborative approach was maintained throughout the project and their technical consultancy delivered value for each project milestone.
