When I tell people that I meet that I have been with the company for more than 20 years, I often get a raised eyebrow or two in response. When I explain that there have been quite many transitions over the years, from having started at the relatively small company of RELCON through the merger with Scandpower, being acquired by Lloyd’s Register and from November 2020 operating as Vysus Group, the eyebrows tend to go down somewhat. It happens though that I ask myself the question how it comes that I have stayed on this journey for such a long time, having seen many of my colleagues taking other routes and others joining over time. Somehow, I always come to the same answer – I enjoy what I am doing and that almost all my working days includes a mixture of tasks that I enjoy. One minute I participate in a meeting where strategy is the focus and the next minute I am in another meeting where we have quite complex technical discussions with a colleague who wants help solving a particular problem. If you add ingredients such as “flexible workplace”, “ambitious growth aspirations” together with “fantastic colleagues” I have come to realise that this mixture suits my needs quite well.
In the Nuclear team at Vysus Group there is a very broad mix of experience, from recent graduates to those that have over 10-15 years of experience in their field and this keeps us on our toes in a healthy way. Those of us that are more experienced need to be able to communicate our knowledge to our newcomers and, being quick learners, they often out-masters us old-timers with their skills in problem solving using scripting and other tools that they bring with them which adds on the team’s capability to solve problems for our clients. It is also rewarding when you see that the projects that we are involved can often be turned into a speaking opportunity at an international, or national, conference where you can share your experience with your peers and get good feedback on the work that you do.
If you enjoy problem solving, where trying to understand the client’s needs are a big part of it, working under the concept of “flexibility and responsibility” and you are not afraid of multi-tasking, I would say you should consider having a career with Vysus.
